Drinking lemon water before breakfast each morning is especially good for cleansing the liver. Lemons are also a good source of citric acid, potassium, calcium and magnesium. Also lemons are effective at dissolving uric acid which is often the cause of inflammation in joints.

Are Limes as good as Lemons?

As we transition from summer to autumn, it's a good idea to sync & align our lifestyle and routines with the rhythms of the approaching season to optimize our health and well-being.  Summertime is Pitta time--hot, humid and intense.  Autumn is Vata time--sometimes cold, sometimes hot and always dry.  The dry weather of fall and winter enters the body through the skin, ears, nose, lips and genitals so we want to lubricate these openings to keep them soft and supple

When the rhythms of your life do not align with the rhythms and cycles of nature, toxins are inevitable.

Spring is here and after a long winter of eating heavy comfort foods most people want to feel the quality of lightness and clarity in their body and mind again. The cleansing procedures of Ayurveda are called Panchakarma and they were originally created for Indian royalty to extend longevity. If you are feeling blocked, experiencing fatigue or heaviness, depression, poor digestion, insomnia, allergies, arthritis, or have a thick coating on your tongue, it’s a pretty good indication you have stored toxins or ama, as Ayurveda calls it.

What is Ghee?

Golden colored ghee is prepared by melting and simmering butter until all the water evaporates and all the milk solids settle at the bottom.  The remaining butter oil is very stable, giving it a high smoke point which makes it an excellent choice for baking, sauteing, and cooking.  Because of the low moisture content, ghee can be stored for over a year.

Ghee Benefits:

Ayurvedic texts say that ghee helps balance excess stomach acid, and helps maintain and repair the mucus lining of the stomach

Triphala

The most popular Ayurvedic herbal formula is Triphala. In fact, Triphala is considered somewhat of a panacea in Ayurveda because it has a unique ability to detoxify the body, and at the same time deeply nourish and strengthen the body.

Triphala is a Sanskrit word and is translated as “three (tri) fruits (phala).” It contains Amalaki, Bibhitaki & Haritaki. These three fruits are each rich in different actions, uses and nutrients and the formula is considered tri-doshic which means it has a balancing effect on all three doshas.

Krazy for Kitchari!

I usually begin each new season with detoxing on my mind since it's a natural time to cleanse the body of all undigested toxic particles known as ama in Ayurveda.  If ama is not regularly purged it clogs the channels (intestines, arteries, veins, arteries, lymphatic system) and creates weakness in the body eventually resulting in disease.

Ayurveda takes a holistic approach to skin care and recognizes that the skin is not separate from the rest of the body.  Ayurvedic skin care not only treats the skin, but treats the whole body and the whole person. In Ayurveda radiant skin and beauty can only be achieved when one is in balance or healthy.  Our skin is a reflection of what is going on inside and we can’t expect to have have beautiful glowing skin unless our diet and lifestyle are in harmony with our constitution.  What goes in our bodies shows on our skin.
