Wise elders often say that one should eat basil every day for good health. 

Basil leaves are pungent and balance Kapha (the earth and water element) and at the same time they are calming to Vata.  Basil is a wonderful tonic for the heart and the immune system.  Basil is a good source of Vitamin C, magnesium, iron, and calcium. 

Basil leaves have a delicious anise taste and are used in Italian, Asian and Thai cuisine.  We love them crumbled into salads!
